Bullying or harassment can occur even in the most unlikely settings and when it does, you need to be prepared to handle it as best you can for all involved. On occasions, the damage may be confined to the victim and the perpetrator, but in other cases, the list of those involved can spread to partner organisations, suppliers, clients/customers, even to other staff and beyond. This article examines what we mean by bullying and harassment, the different grounds on which it can occur and its impact on the wellbeing of the employee. It also looks and how to reduce the risks of it occurring and if it should occur, how to approach dealing with it.
