**Page under review- new employment law developments from 6 April 2024** In addition to the legal requirement to carry out general risk assessments, special provisions apply to new or expectant mothers and their babies and, more generally, to women of child-bearing age. New or expectant mothers are defined in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 as employees who: - are pregnant or - have given birth within the previous six months (delivering a living child or, after 24 weeks of pregnancy, a stillborn child) or - are breastfeeding (which could continue for a longer period than the six months after childbirth).
