Summary

This overview deals with the statutory right to request flexible working, which was extended in scope in April 2024 to become a day one right for all employees. Further changes also saw employees being permitted to make up to two requests to the same employer in any twelve month period, removal of the requirement for employees to consider and explain in their application the impact their request may have on the employer and the requirement for employers to consult with employees before refusing a request. There is also a new Acas Code of Practice to steer the approach employers should take and promotes a 'positive culture around flexible working'.
